Beryl Thomas Janes

January 12, 1932 ~ January 6, 2017 (age 84) 84 Years Old


          Beryl Thomas Janes, age 84 of Kingsville, died Friday, January 6, 2017 at his home with his family at his side.

          Beryl was born on January 12, 1932 in Grafton, West Virginia the son of Dallas W. and Helen V. (Blake) Janes.  He entered the United States Navy in 1951 and served his country proudly until he was honorably discharged and served in the Navy Reserves until 1959. 

          He came to the Ashtabula area from Fairmont, WV and worked as a crane operator at the former Union Carbide/Elkem Metals factory in Ashtabula until he retired in 1991 after 32 years of service.

          Beryl enjoyed the outdoors, sitting on his back porch drinking coffee, playing the banjo and guitar and listening to country music.  For many years, he and his wife Nancy traveled to West Virginia to visit family and friends.

          He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Nancy (Grubb) Janes in 2001, son Beryl Janes, Jr., sisters Martha Baker, Georgia Tharp, Maxine Janes, brother William Janes, son-in-law Daniel Hopkins, and grandson Michael Fields.

          Beryl is survived by three sons Thomas and Tracey Janes of Kelloggsville, Steven and Cheryl Janes of Mentor, Ben Janes of Kingsville, five daughters Nancy and Gene Fields of Ashtabula, Pam Hopkins of Conneaut, Cindy and Alton Peterson of Conneaut, Jennifer Janes of Kingsville, Bonnie and Ken Martin of Kingsville, a step brother Richard Heck of Southington, Ohio, a sister Ruth Doby of Barrackville, WV, 18 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.

          Calling hours will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 9, 2017 at the Raisian Family Funeral Home, 581 Harbor St., Conneaut.

          Prayer services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at the Raisian Family Funeral Home. 

Burial will follow at LuLu Falls Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Kingsville where the American Legion Neal Post 743 will conduct military honors.

Memorial contributions may be made to Beryl’s family to assist with funeral expenses.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
