Delores M. English-Briel

Delores M. English-Briel, age 87 of Conneaut, died Sunday, November 27, 2016 at her residence, with her family at her side.

Delores was born September 22, 1929 in Conneaut, Ohio the daughter of Michael and Angela Bartone Castrilla.  She was a graduate from Conneaut High School.  Delores worked at the former Astatic Corporation, Emco Wheaton, Hercules.  She was the owner and operator of DeMarces Stop and Shop, she was the manager in the Scharr Jewelery department at the former Fishers Big Wheel, and became manager of the entire store.

Delores was a member for Corpus Christi Parish, where she volunteered many hours working with Christ’s Cooks, Mary’s Kitchen and the Lenten fish dinners.  She was also a member of the Cara Mia Club, Conneaut Moose Lodge, American Legion Post 151, Ladies Chat-N-Chew Club, card club and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. 

Delores was a former “Den Mother” when her children were younger.  Her faith and family were the most important part of her life.  She especially loved hosting family gatherings, pool parties and cooking.  She was an animal lover and was also awarded the Conneaut Senior Citizen of the Month Award.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Theodore English, her son Jeffrey English, second husband William “Bud” Briel, brothers Felix Castrilla, Joseph Castrilla, Albert Castrilla, sisters Helen Colucci, Margaret Norris, Mary Lyons and Josephine Butts.  Also, step-grandson Michael McMahon, close friend Alvin Wilbur and great-great granddaughter Lanie Powell.

She is survived by her son, Theodore and Janet English of Monroe, a daughter Renea and John Roach of Conneaut, five grandchildren, Ted English, Missi and James Williams, Crystal and Jamie Emus, J.J. Roach and Marcus Roach, seven great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Calling Hours will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at the Raisian Family Funeral Home and cremation services, 581 Harbor St., Conneaut, Ohio.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 2, 2016, at St. Mary Church, 480 State St. Conneaut, with Father Phillip Miller of Corpus Christi Parish and Father Raymond Thomas of Our Lady of Peace concelebrating.

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Rt. 20, North Kingsville, Oh. 

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Legion Baseball Team, (Lanie Powell Scholarship Foundation).  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
