Josephine J. Colby, age 93 of Conneaut, died Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at UH Hospital in Cleveland with her family by her side.
Josephine was born on November 8, 1923 in Retsof, New York the daughter of Michael and Mary Fasano DiCenso. She was a 1942 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School. In May of 1946 she married the love of her life, Anthony “Chag” Colby and they began to raise their family. Josephine worked at the former Kerner’s Store, the Conneaut Dairy Queen, the Conneaut Leather Company and 13 years at the former Astatic Corporation.
Josephine was a member of Corpus Christi Parish and attended mass at St. Mary Church. She loved to bake, cook and make homemade pizza during Lent for family and friends. She belonged to the Ladies Bowling League years ago, and enjoyed playing pinochle, traveling to the casinos and “ladies lunch”. For many years Josephine was a member and an officer of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and served as Vice-Regent. Josephine especially loved the time she spent her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Anthony “Chag” Colby (1994), two sisters Dolores DiCenso, Carmella Vendetti, three brothers Pasquale DiCenso, John DiCenso and Amideo DiCenso.
Josephine is survived by two sons, Nicholas (Mary) Colby of Conneaut, Joseph (Memory) Colby of Kingsville, two daughters, Kathie Colby Spore of Conneaut, Mary Jo (Danny) Muck of Kingsville, a brother Vincent DiCenso of Warren, OH, grandchildren, A.J Colby, Pete (Carrie) Colby, Nichole (Ryan) David, Nicholas Colby, Joseph (Casey) Colby, Alexander Colby, Ethan Colby, Anthony Colby, Jason (Stephanie) Spore along with great -grandchildren Hope, Dominick, Abigail, Zackary, Kayla, and Carlina.
Calling hours will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 11, 2017 at the Raisian Family Funeral Home, 581 Harbor Street, Conneaut, Ohio.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 12, 2017 at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 480 State St, Conneaut with Fr. Philip Miller of Corpus Christi Parish officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Route 20, North Kingsville.
Memorial contributions in Josephine’s memory can be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Ashtabula County Animal Protective League or Corpus Christi Parish Building Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
