Salvadore "Sam" James Madonna

June 15, 1926 ~ May 29, 2017 (age 90) 90 Years Old


      Salvadore “Sam” James Madonna, age 90, of Conneaut, Ohio, died Monday, Memorial Day, May 29, 2017 at Saint Vincent Hospital in Erie, Pa., surrounded by his family.

      Sam was born on June 15, 1926 in Rochester, Pennsylvania, the son of Angelo and Constance (Vignal) Madonna.  He was a 1943 graduate of Conneaut High School. Sam served in the United State Navy as a Seaman First Class for the Amphibious forces on the U.S.S. L.S.T. 721 in the South Pacific during World War II.  Sam was honorably discharged on June 10, 1946.

      Sam worked as a yard foreman for the Bessemer Railroad, where he retired from in 1980.  He was owner and operator of Madonna Heating for many years

      Sam was a member of Corpus Christi Parish, American Legion Cowle Post #151 and the Knights of Columbus #627.  He enjoyed woodworking, ceramics, traveling, sitting on their front porch on summer evenings, and Sam especially loved the time he spent with friends and family.

      He was preceded in death by his parents, sons, Michael J. Madonna (2016), Mark Madonna (1956), two infant sons at birth and brothers Charles Madonna and Anthony Madonna.

      He is survived by his wife Barbara (Arp) Madonna, whom he married August 2, 1947, daughters Cathy (Bob) Workman of Tucson, AZ, Lori (Jim) Stevens of Conneaut, grandchildren, Chad (Kori) Campbell of Conneaut, Sarah Campbell of Lakewood, Stephanie Workman Phillips of Tucson, AZ BJ (Kelli) Workman of Tucson, AZ, great-grandchildren, Devyn Zappitelli and Collin Campbell of Conneaut, Campbell and Kennedy Phillips of Tucson, AZ, a brother Vincent Madonna of Tucson, AZ. and daughter-in-law Chris Madonna of Hoschton, GA.

      Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Raisian Family Funeral Home, 581 Harbor St., Conneaut.

      Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 2, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 480 State Street, Conneaut with Father Phillip Miller of Corpus Christ Parish officiating. 

      Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Route 20, Conneaut where the American Legion Honor Squad will conduct military honors

      Memorial contributions can be made in Sam’s name to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 8001 Sweet Valley Drive, Suite #3, Valley View, Ohio 44125 or The Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.  Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.
