Sylvia J. Parma

            Sylvia J. Parma, age 90 of Conneaut, died Thursday, December 28, 2017 at the Villa at the Lake.

            Sylvia was the wife of the late Andrew Parma of Conneaut and the daughter of the late Peter and Antonetta Sardella and was born October 1, 1927 in Ashtabula, Ohio.

            She was a 1945 graduate of Ashtabula High School.  Sylvia was employed as a teller at the First Federal Savings and Loan in Ashtabula before moving to Conneaut.  She retired after 25 years as a secretary at the General Electric Company in Conneaut.  While working at the General Electric, she worked in the evenings at Sardella’s Restaurant as a waitress.

            Sylvia was a member of Corpus Christi Parish, the Cara Mia Club, Conneaut Moose Lodge, the American Legion, and was also a member and past president of the Conneaut Board of Education.  She was very active with the Conneaut High School Booster Club and was always very involved with the schools for many years.  After retirement, Sylvia’s husband Andy suggested she get a hobby, and she did, Sylvia joined two golf leagues, ladies’ afternoon bowling, Wednesday card club and morning coffee at Basil’s with the girls. 

            Sylvia adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren and they were the love of her life.  She absolutely loved shopping for all of them.  She enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas. going to the casinos and playing the one-armed bandits and 2 cent slot machines.   In 2007, she traveled to Italy with her family. 

            Survivors include two sons, Joseph A. (Danica) of Conneaut and Andrew (Terri) of Jefferson, four grandchildren, Joey Lynn (Dan) Allds, Nick (Kelly) Parma, Andrea Parma, Andrew (Lauren) Parma and Anthony (Mariella) Platano, great grandchildren, Gianna Allds, Briella Allds, Arieana Parma, MaKenzie Parma and Dominic Parma, sisters-in-law Carmella Sardella, Mary Ann Parma and Angie Fedor.

            Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, husband Andrew Parma in 1999, daughter-in-law Carol Parma, brothers Lee Sardella and James Sardella and sister Phyllis DelPrince.

            Calling hours will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at the Raisian Family Funeral Home, 581 Harbor St., Conneaut.

            Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 744 Mill Street, Conneaut with Father Philip Miller of Corpus Christi Parish officiating.

            Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Route 20, Conneaut.

            The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Hospice of the Western Reserve, the Villa at the Lake and her special childhood friend, Eleanor Pignotti for the care and love given to her. 

            Memorial contributions may be made to the CHS SPARC Program or to Hospice of the Western Reserve.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
