Cloid "Van" W. VanCise

Cloid “Van” W. VanCise, age 89 of Conneaut, died Friday, October 27, 2017 at St. Vincent Medical Center, Erie, PA.

Van was born on June 17, 1928 in Erie, Pa., the son of Kenneth C. VanCise and Mildred B. Altman. A graduate from East High, Erie, Pa., Van joined the United States Navy and served his country until he was honorably discharged. He returned to the Erie area and worked as a long-haul truck driver for many years traveling all over the United States. He also was the owner/operator of VanCise Garage in Erie and Springfield and later he moved his auto repair garage to Conneaut. Van worked until his retirement just last January 2016 at the age of 87.

Van had a love for stockcar racing and raced at many of the local tracks in Erie and New York. He also enjoyed fishing, going to flea markets, working on cars, cooking for friends and family and he also had a knack for drawing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Geraldine (SanMarco) VanCise and a brother Leonard VanCise.

Van is survived by a son Cloid “Jim” and Missy VanCise of Springboro, Pa., daughters Claudia “Sue” and Phil Warren of Conneaut, LuAnne and Ron Morris of Conneaut, Veronica “Vicki” VanCise of Canonsburg, Pa., M.J. and Tim Lindey of Slippery Rock, Pa., 21 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, a great-great granddaughter due in February and a great grandchild due in March.  Also surviving are Wayne Pugh, Mary Becker, Cathy Stroud, Mary Ann and Richard Luce, whom he resided with.

Calling hours will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at the Raisian Family Funeral Home, 581 Harbor St, Conneaut. 

Burial will take place at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at St. Joseph Cemetery, Conneaut with the American Legion Honor Squad presenting Military Honors.  Following burial, a Celebration of Van’s Life will be held at the Elks Lodge, 63 Parish Rd. Conneaut.  All family and friends are welcome.

Memorial contributions in memory of Van can be made to the APL of Ashtabula County or the Veterans Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
