Kathleen Kay Drakes

Kathleen Kay Drakes, age 77 of Conneaut died Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at UH Conneaut Medical Center, surrounded by her family.

She was born on April 29, 1941 in Ashtabula, the daughter of Howard and Helen (Hietikko) Kennedy. She was a 1959 graduate of Austinburg High School and later received her realtors license from Kent State University.

Kathleen and her husband Joe were owner/operators of the former Drakes Fuel Service in West Springfield and most recently she worked at Orlando Brothers Golden Dawn as a cashier.

She was a member of West Springfield United Methodist Church and former member of the Order of Eastern Star and Gold Wing Road Riders Association Chapter 6.  Kathleen enjoyed playing bingo and cards at Highland Apartments with her friends, riding motorcycles in her younger years and working at Golden Dawn because she loved seeing people there. She was an avid Elvis fan and enjoyed watching videos and listening to his music.   Most importantly, Kathleen loved her family, especially her children and grandchildren.  She may have been stubborn as a mule, but she was soft as a feather. 

Kathleen was preceded in death by the love of her life, Joseph Drakes in 2007, whom she married November 3, 1984, two grandchildren Christopher Duris and Ryan Schwartfigure and one brother Howard Kennedy.

She is survived by two daughters Kelly Schwartfigure and Debbie (Gary) Duris both of Conneaut, one sister Bonnie McKelvey of Austinburg, seven grandchildren, Sean Schwartfigure, Justin Schwartfigure, Kacie Schwartfigure, Spencer Schwartfigure, Alicia (Jason) Coe, Sadie (Mark) Lower and Brian Duris, one great granddaughter MaKenzie Coe, son-in-law George Schwartfigure, his son Ben (Danise) Schwartfigure, sister-in-law Janet Kennedy and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the Raisian Family Funeral Home 581 Harbor Street, Conneaut.

Funeral Services will follow at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Raisian Family Funeral Home. 

Burial will follow at East Springfield Cemetery, Rt. 215, East Springfield, PA.
