Wallace "Wally" L. Gentile

September 20, 1930 ~ October 30, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old


Wallace “Wally” L. Gentile, age 87, of Ashtabula died unexpectedly Monday October 30, 2017 at Ashtabula County Medical Center.

Wally was born on September 20, 1930 in Ashtabula the son of Anthony and Mae (Rosenberg) Gentile.  He was a 1948 graduate of Ashtabula High, and later served in the United States Army until he was honorably discharged in 1953.  Wally returned to Ashtabula, where he was a lifelong resident of the area.

Wally was a foreman for Union Carbide/Elkem Metal until he retired as supervisor after 29 years of service.  Wally was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish and attended mass at St. Joseph Church, he enjoyed dancing at the VFW, Fishing, Gardening, golfing, and working the chain gang for the Ashtabula High School football team for many years. 

Wally was truly a jack of ALL trades and he mastered many.  He was always ready to help anyone who needed his expertise.  Wally was a role model for hard work, which his sons learned very well, as did the men who worked under his foremanship.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Bobby.

Wally is survived by his loving wife Rose Gentile, whom he married Nov. 28, 1953, Two sons William (Diane) Gentile of Ashtabula and Victor (Charlene Williams) Gentile of Cleveland, granddaughter Jennifer (Ted) Maki and great-granddaughter Emma Maki.

Private family services will take place take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in Ashtabula on Friday, November 3, 2017 at with Father Raymond Thomas of Our Lady of Peace presiding.  Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 103.
