Anthony Zappitelli Obituary

     

     Anthony Emil Zappitelli, age 77 passed away peacefully on February 22, 2021 at the Ashtabula County Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Kingsville, Ohio.

     Anthony was born on November 8, 1943 in Conneaut, OH the son of Emil & Dorothy Zappitelli.  He was a graduate of Conneaut High School, class of 1961.

     After graduation he served in the United States Navy and was stationed in Norfolk, VA. During his time in the Navy he was aboard the USS Dahlgren for two years and honorably discharged in1963, he then served for four years inactive duty.

     Anthony worked a short time at the Elkem Metals in Ashtabula, Ohio. For 32 years, he worked at General Electric as a maintenance supervisor and retired in 2003.

     Anthony was preceded in death by his parents, brother Michael (Midge) Zappitelli, Paul and Elsie Campbell, Thomas and Laura Campbell and Jack Carr (inlaws).

     Anthony is survived by the love of his life and high school sweetheart Carole Campbell Zappitelli (Prom King & Queen of Conneaut High School 1961), whom he married on May 2, 1964 at St Frances Cabrini Church officiated by Reverend Orlando D. Rich.

     He is also survived by Trisha (Ken) Obermiyer of North Kingsville, OH, Matthew Zappitelli (Lisa Michalk) of Concord, OH, Deanne Rockwell (Michael Bartone) of Conneaut, brother Carl (Betty) Zappitelli, sister Nancy (Pat) Cifelli, sister-in-law Norma Carr all of Conneaut, OH.

     Anthony had six grandchildren. McKenna & Kate Zappitelli, Victor & Julia Rockwell, and Lindsey & Griffin Obermiyer along with many nieces and nephews.

    Anthony was a member of Corpus Christi Parish and the American Legion Cowle Post 151. Golfing was his favorite sport with his Conneaut foursome and his Ashtabula boys. He received a trophy for a hole in one in the 1990’s in Myrtle Beach, SC. He also played slo-pitch for the GE team and enjoyed bowling for several years at El Camp Lanes. Anthony was an avid Cleveland sports fan and an amazing accordion player. Anthony also enjoyed making homemade sauce and meatballs for Sunday family dinners.

     A special Thank you to the staff of Ashtabula County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center (A&E Wings), DaVita Ashtabula Dialysis, and Hospice of Western Reserve.

     In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Corpus Christi Parish Memorial Fund in memory of Anthony E. Zappitelli, 744 Mill St., Conneaut, OH 44030.

     Due to COVID-19 and the safety of family and friends, private family visitation will be held at the convenience of the family.

     Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at St. Francis Cabrini Church with Father Philip Miller and Deacon Nick Iarocci officiating.  Those who are attending Mass are required to wear masks and social distance.

     The Raisian Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with Anthony’s arrangements.
