Anthony "Ron" Ross Obituary

Anthony Ronald Ross age 77 of Conneaut died Sunday, January 24, 2021 at UH Geauga Medical Center.

Ron was born on October 30, 1943 in Conneaut the son of Joseph and Agnes (Chicatelli) Ross.  He was a 1961 graduate of Conneaut High School.  While growing up Ron worked at Betty Jays and then for his Uncle Jake at El Camp Lanes and for his Uncle Pat Contino at the shoe repair shop.  Following graduation Ron attended School of Business and Meat cutting school in Toledo, Ohio.  He returned to the area and worked as a meat cutter and butcher at Bowdler’s Stop and Shop, Charlie Moses Stop and Shop and Orlando’s Golden Dawn in Kingsville.

In January of 1971 he and his wife Arlene opened their own business, Ron’s Meat Market which they owned and operated for 49 years.  They specialized in catering, specialty meats and Ron’s famous homemade Italian sausage.

Ron was a member of Corpus Christi Parish, Moose Lodge, Knights of Columbus, former Wolves Club, Teen Town and Jaycees.  He served as a former 4th Ward Councilman, City Sanitation Director and on the City of Conneaut Board of Health.  Ron also worked for the State of Ohio Department of Agriculture for over 28 years.

Ron chaired the St. Frances Cabrini Festival food concessions and was an active member at various church functions.  For many years Ron took care of and maintained the “little cousins’ fountain” on the corner of Lake Road and Detroit Street.

Ron adored his wife Arlene.  They have been together since they were 15 years old and you rarely saw one without the other.  His family was his priority, and he was happiest when everyone was all together and he was telling one of his famous stories, which we all loved to hear.  He had a passion for model trains and had collected them since he was in his early 20's.  Ron loved the Conneaut community and spending time with his store customers and always enjoyed a good political conversation.  For many years Ron enjoyed having his friends stop by for coffee and donuts in the “back room” at his store.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents.

Ron is survived by his loving wife Arlene (Woodworth) Ross whom he married April 11, 1964 at St. Mary Church, brother Robert Ross, children Tammy (Mark) Ashcraft, Michael (Mandy) Ross, Joseph Ross, and Anthony (Tammy) Ross, grandchildren Jessica (Michael) Cunningham, Kyle Sprinkle, Alexander (Stephanie) Ross, Andrew Ross, Emily Ross, Jessica Walsh, Brady Walsh and Hunter Walsh, great grandson Greyson Cunningham and a great granddaughter on the way.

At Ron’s request out of concern for his family and friends due to Covid-19, private family services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Funeral Mass will be LIVESTREAMED on the Raisian Family Funeral Home Facebook page at 12:00 p.m. NOON on Thursday, January 28, 2021 for those who wish to view it.

Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, Route 20, Conneaut.
