Billy B. Bowers, age 83, died early on Ash Wednesday, Feb 18, 2015 at Western Reserve David Simpson Hospice House, Cleveland, Ohio with his family by his side.
Billy was born on February 10, 1932 in Conneaut, Ohio the son of Charles and Mazie Kinney Bowers. He attended Conneaut High School and went to work delivering newspapers for the former News Herald. Billy also worked for the Nickel Plate Railroad and went on to work at the Electro Met in Ashtabula. He retired from Elkem Metals as a foreman after 32 years of service. During his retirement he also worked for Pinney Dock as a security guard.
Billy was a member of St. Andrew's Church and spent many hours as the groundskeeper, maintenance man and helping the priest. He also enjoyed helping Fr. Willis at St. Mary Church in Conneaut.
He loved construction and building things and he enjoyed working in his yard driving his Farmall H tractor and brush hogging. He raised horses, cows and pigs. When he was younger, Billy enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling with his wife, Dolores to Florida, Texas and Arkansas to visit family and friends. Billy especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchild and "his man" Rocky the Schnauzer.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Matilda Rose and Dorothy West, four brothers, Harold Bowers, Arthur Bowers, Charles Bowers and Donald Bowers, an infant sister, and a nephew, Harry Bowers.
He is survived by his wife, Dolores Stasko Bowers, whom he married October 17, 1949, two sons, Louie Bowers and Dean (and Julie) Bowers, both of Ashtabula, two daughters, Janice (and Duane) Deak, and Debbie Davis, both of Ashtabula, five grandchildren, Darren, Amanda, Russell, Stephanie and Rhonda, one great-grandson, Daniel and one on the way, and sister, Gladys Ferguson of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Calling hours will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at the RAISIAN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 581 Harbor Street, Conneaut.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at St. Andrew's Church, 3700 State Route 193, Sheffield, with Father John Sheridan officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Route 20, North Kingsville, Ohio.
