Obituary

Carolyn V. Gritzer age 90 of Conneaut, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2022, at the Ashtabula County Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Carolyn was born on December 16, 1931, in Union Town, PA., the daughter of Frederick and Evelyn (Furlong) Port. She was a graduate of St. Xavier High in Latrobe, PA.  She married the love of her life Frank R Gritzer on November 29, 1948, and they moved to Conneaut in 1955 to raise their family.

Carolyn attended the Amboy United Methodist Church and was a member of #869 Tops Club North Kingsville, the 385 Rebekah Club, Salem IOOF, 472 Moose and the # 86 Women of the Moose. For many years Carolyn traveled around the Great Lakes following her husband who sailed. Carolyn was a great cook and she loved to bake, especially cakes, pies, and breads. In her younger years she enjoyed walking with her lady friends. Carolyn cherished her grandchildren and family.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband Frank R. Gritzer (2018), a son William Gritzer (2016), an infant brother William Port and brother-in-law Frank Davis.

She is survived by two daughters, Jane and John Szalai of Conneaut, Susan (Penny) Andrew of Winter Park, FL, a son Rick and Julie Gritzer of Conneaut, seven grandchildren, Nicole, Ashley, Taylor, Cory, Jen, Jamie and Lisa and ten great-grandchildren Dominic, Devan, DeAngelo, Jordyn, Paige, Abby, Jon, Evan, Nicholas, and Morgan, two great-great grandchildren Lauren and Lilly, two brothers Frederick and Dolors Port of Kalamazoo, MI, and Richard and Linda Port of Henderson, NV, a sister Elizabeth Davis of Phoenix, AZ along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at the Raisian Funeral Home, 581 Harbor St, Conneaut.

Funeral service will follow on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. with Rev Betsy Schenk of the Amboy United Methodist Church officiating.

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Route 20, North Kingsville.
