Clara Bennett Obituary

Clara Jean Bennett age 87 of Conneaut passed on to be with her Lord and Savior and to be re-united with her beloved husband Keith on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at Saybrook Landing Health and Rehabilitation.  

Clara Jean was born May 7, 1933 in Conneaut the daughter of John and Helen (Evon) Mate. She attended St. Mary School and was a 1952 Conneaut High School graduate.  Clara Jean married the love of her life Keith Bennett in 1953 at St. Mary Church. Clara Jean worked for a short time as a secretary at Dover Crest Mills and was a housewife for most of her life looking after her family. She also enjoyed music and loved listening to her son sing and play his guitar.

Clara Jean was a member of Corpus Christi Parish and attended Mass at St. Mary Church. She was a family history buff and a longtime member of the Korean War Veterans Association for which her husband served until he was honorably discharged. She was also a charter member of the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.

The Korean War Veterans magazine chose the article “A Good Starting Point” published by Clara Jean as the 1st place article for the 60th Anniversary Edition. Clara Jean was so immensely proud of the work she had done on behalf of the Korean Veterans. She was also published in the Forgotten War Remembered with her poem “Noah’s Dove.”

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Keith Bennett, Sr. in 2004, sisters Marguerite Zappitello, Gloria LaBounty, Elinore Boreman, brother John Mate and a nephew Steve LaBounty.

Clara Jean is survived by her son Keith R. and Diane Bennett, Jr., of Mentor, three grandchildren Christopher Bennett, Joseph Bennett, and Erin Marie Bennett, three great grandchildren Alexandra, Noah and Emily. Also surviving are several wonderful nieces and nephews all of whom Clara Jean loved and cherished.

Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at Raisian Family Funeral Home, 581 Harbor Street, Conneaut.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at St. Mary Church, 480 Mill St., Conneaut with Fr. Philp Miller officiating.

Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Conneaut.

Masks and social distancing will be required.
