Gary D. Farver, age 84 of Conneaut, died late Saturday evening January 2, 2021 at home with his family.
Gary was born in Erie, PA., the son of Clemens and Inez Porter Farver. He was a 1954 graduate of West Springfield High School. During his high school years Gary was very involved in school. He was an officer in the F.F.A and his dedication earned him a scholarship in agriculture.
Following high school Gary went to work for the Norfolk & Western Railroad and retired from there after 35 years of service as a Conductor for the railroad.
After retirement, his hobby was gardening. Gary was a basketball fanatic, playing the game he loved in high school and following it all his life. He loved attending Northwestern High School football games every Friday evening. He also was an avid Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers fan. Gary had a knack for world geography and maps. Gary was a great family man. Gary was a member of Corpus Christi Parish.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Gary is survived by his wife, Julie E. Shuster whom he married August 25, 1956 at St. Frances Cabrini, two sons Gary M. Farver of Sharon, PA and Jeffrey Farver of Conneaut, one daughter Lori and Brian Soltis of Godley, TX , grandchildren Dylan (Keegan McTrusty) Sweet and he was anxiously awaiting the arrival of his first great-grandchild, Morgan Sweet, Joshua, Jonathan and Christiana Farver all of AZ, Sisters, Sylvia and Frank Hollenbeck of AZ, Louise Huntley of TX, and Bonnie Shuster of FL, brothers, Thomas and Phyllis Farver of CA, Clemens and Nancy Farver of FL, step-mother Phyllis Niles Farver, a special great-great niece Amari and several nieces and nephews.
Because of the Covid-19 and concerns for your family’s health, the family has requested private services for Gary.
Funeral services will take place Friday, January 8, 2021 at the Raisian Family Funeral Home, 581 Harbor Street, Conneaut, with Fr. Philip Miller officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Conneaut.
Memorial contributions in memory of Gary can be made to the Conneaut Railroad Museum. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
