Gerald L. Petz age 88 passed away on December 30, 2023, in Erie, Pa.
Gerald was born on August 13, 1935, in Conneaut, the son of Michael and Elizabeth Pizzi Petz. He was a 1954 graduate of Conneaut High School. Following High school, Gerald went to work for the railroad for nine years and then was hired at the Pittsburgh & Conneaut Dock Company. He worked there as a heavy equipment operator and later as the safety inspector. He retired in 1996 after 40 years of service.
Gerald was a member of Corpus Christi Parish and was very active in many of the church functions over the years with his wife and family. He loved to lift weights and work out in his younger years. He also loved football games, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and making wine for family and friends. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and family. Gerald and Joanne moved back to Erie after a short time in Melbourne, Florida, and Columbus, Ohio to be near family and friends.
Gerald is survived by son Jerry “JJ” and Kari Petz of Alabama, daughter Alicia and Steve Maenpaa of Conneaut, four grandchildren Brady, Macen, A.J. and Samantha, sister Anita Jones and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ernestine Joanne Petz in 2022, grandson Dylan and Aunt Dorothy Mucciarone.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at St. Frances Cabrini Parish with Father Philip Miller of Corpus Christi Parish officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, North Kingsville.
