Ivor L. Zappitella, age 78, of Conneaut died Friday January 4, 2019 in the Hospice Unit at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
Ivor was born March 7, 1940 in Conneaut, the son of Carmen and Cora (Gollen) Zappitella. He was a 1958 graduate of Conneaut High School and served in the National Guard for 6 years. Ivor worked on the ore boats and retired from Norfolk & Western as an Engineer after 30 years of service.
Ivor was a member of the Conneaut Moose Club. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, being outdoors and going to auctions. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his partner of 51 years Sandra Tarring, three brothers Frank, Louis and Carmen, and three sisters Dora, Evelyn and Rosemary.
Ivor is survived by his two sons Scott (Korine) Zappitella of Conneaut and Charles Zappitella of Conneaut, brother Clyde Zappitella of West Springfield, sister Marian Zappitella of Cleveland, four grandchildren Lance, Alesha, Max and Alex, and five great-grandchildren Stella, Gabriel, Phaedra, Serenity and Xavier.
Calling hours will be held Saturday January 12, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a brief prayer service at 1:00 p.m., at the Raisian Family Funeral Home, 581 Harbor St. Conneaut, OH.
Burial will follow at Kellogsville Cemetery where the American Legion Honor Squad will conduct military honors.
