James Anthony Obituary

James V. Anthony age 87 of Conneaut passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Saturday, July 2, 2022.

Jim was born on June 1, 1935, in Conneaut the son of Dominic “DD” and Helen Valerioti Anthony.  He was a 1953 graduate of Conneaut High School and went on to work for a short time at General Electric and for many years as a commercial fisherman with his father on the “Ronnie S”.  During that time, Jim attended barber school and earned his degree in Erie, Pa and for many years was the owner/operator of Jim’s Barber Shop in the Conneaut Harbor and retired after 65 years. 

Jim had a love of boating, fishing, scuba diving and was an excellent wood worker and craftsman.  For many years, Jim assisted the Coast Guard and local fire departments with Lake Erie rescues and taught and transported dive teams. 

A few years ago, he was interviewed by Paul Harvey of NBC regarding the blue pike fish being saved by Jim, with research still being done today from his efforts. 

For many years Jim and his wife Mary Lynn would winter in Florida in the Venice and Keys areas.  They also traveled to Europe and especially loved visiting Italy, the California coast, and cruises to Alaska. 

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Anthony Wunderle, brother Dr. Donald Anthony and a sister Gloria Crawford. 

He is survived by his loving wife Mary Lynn Hall Anthony, whom he married November 22, 1952, four children Dr. James M. (Lynne) Anthony of Amherst, OH, Greg A. (Cathy) Anthony of Wadsworth, OH, Lori (Gregory) Wunderle of Conneaut and Steve (Draga) Anthony of Lakewood, OH, grandchildren Michelle (Chris) Young, Brian Anthony, Justin (Jessica) Anthony, Jeff (Claire) Anthony, Christopher (Kellie) Anthony, Mary Lynn (Maura) Wunderle, Joseph Wunderle, James (Lindsay) Wunderle, great grandchildren Blake, Parker, Leighton, Landon, Piper and Roscoe, brother Ronald Anthony, sister Shirley Smola and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at the Raisian Funeral Home, 581 Harbor Street, Conneaut.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 744 Mill Street, Conneaut with Father Philip Miller of Corpus Christi Parish officiating.

Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Conneaut.

Memorial contributions may be made to Corpus Christi Memorial Fund.
