James W. Brown, age 87 of Conneaut, passed away Thursday, December 21, 2023, at the Ashtabula County Nursing & Rehabilitation.
Jim was born on March 22, 1936, in Conneaut, the son of Edgar and Virginia Vibbard Brown. Jim was a 1954 graduate of Conneaut High School. Jim enlisted in the United States Navy in 1959 and was honorably discharged in 1965 after six years of service. During Jim’s time in the service, he was a NSA Instructor specializing in Japanese surveillance.
Jim returned to Conneaut and went to work at the former Webb’s Manufacturing and later retired from there after serving 35 years as Regional Sales Manager. During that time, he was able to travel all over the world for the company and was able to bring his wife Janice Brown along for the ride.
Jim was a member of the American Legion Cowle Post #151 and the Honor Squad of #151. He was an avid bowler and golfer and played in many leagues over the years. He was also known to play a hand or two of Texas Hold Em.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Janice (Logan) Brown in October 2023, and a brother Sonny Brown.
He is survived by his two daughters, Camille Brown and Jodee Simon and Tamara Zappitelli and Rod Griffey, all of Conneaut, grandchildren Nick Zappitelli, Lisa and Tyler Rich, great-grandchildren Bentley Zappitelli, Zoey and Kian Rich, stepdaughters, Patricia (Jeff) Janis, Twinsburg, Kelly Prescott of Mayfield Heights, Cathy Norris of Concord, and stepson Fred Monda of Burton, ten step-grandchildren, Zachery Hathy, Christian Hathy, Evangelia Nipper, Tera Swan, Michael Monda, Melissa Monda, Lindsay Kukwa, Jared King, Jessica Schuster, Jana Tucci, 17 great-grandchildren and a sister Patricia Anderson.
At Jim’s request, graveside services will take place on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at East Conneaut Cemetery, with Rev. Tim Krause officiating, followed by the American Legion Honor Squad #151conducting full military honors.
Family and friends will gather at the American Legion Cowle Post #151, Broad Street, Conneaut following services.
