James Joseph Sherry, Jr. age 84 of Conneaut, died Thursday morning March 18, 2021 at his residence, surrounded by his family.

Jim was born on April 7, 1936 in Erie, PA., the son of James J. and Lucille Sherry, Sr. Following school, James enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served until he was honorably discharged.

For many years James was employed at the former Elkem Metals Plant in Ashtabula working with metal fabrication and eventually becoming a heavy equipment operator at the plant until his retirement. Jim and Susie also managed the Spring Street Apartments for several years.

Jim was a Harley Davidson motorcycle enthusiast and loved his Irish heritage. He and his wife Susie would take many trips on their Heritage Harley Davidson. Jim was a member of the American Legion Cowle Post 151 and was most proud of his sobriety of 24 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Rita Sherry, and a stepbrother John.

He is survived by his wife Susie Naykki Sherry whom he married St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1990, son James Sherry, daughter Marie and Shawn Smith of Conneaut, stepson Erik Maenpaa and Christy Ledlow of Conneaut, stepdaughters Tarja and Charles Crews of Williston, FL, Liisa Maenpaa of Fryburg, PA, Sanni Maenpaa of Springhill, TN, a sister Shirly and Mike Cifelli of Erie, PA, and granddaughters Crystal Smith and Scout Wassie.

At Jim’s request there will be no services at this time. He will be cremated, and his ashes will be buried in St. Joseph Cemetery in Conneaut.

Donations in his memory can be made to the Ashtabula County Humane Society or Feed Our Vets Ashtabula.
