James Robert Terry age 96 died Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home.
James was born on June 1, 1923 in West Springfield, PA the son of John and Dylla (Vacco) Terry. James was a graduate of West Springfield School. He served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. He worked at the Nickel Plate Railroad as a telegraph operator. He then worked at the P & C Dock Company for 36 years, retiring as a Hewlett operator.
James was a member of Corpus Christi Parish, the VFW and the former Wolves Club. He enjoyed baseball, football, photography, gardening and making homemade wine. He was very handy at repairing things around the house and loved spending time with his family.
James was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Mamie Bowen, Lena Berry and Lillian Webb, brothers Carl, Louis, Anthony, and Frank Terry.
He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Alvera (Zoratti) Terry, whom he married August 16, 1947, children Linda (Michael) Dell of Conneaut, David of Washington, Karen of Florida, Russell of Harpersfield, Joseph (Tracy) of Conneaut, Philip of Columbus and Sara (Thomas) Kardohely of Conneaut, nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In keeping with James’ wishes, no calling hours will be observed.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Conneaut Food Pantry, 327 Mill Street, Conneaut or Corpus Christi Parish, 744 Mill Street, Conneaut. Envelopes will be available at the Raisian Family Funeral Home, 581 Harbor Street, Conneaut where arrangements have been entrusted.
