Joseph Massi Obituary

Joseph R. Massi age 77 of Conneaut passed away on Friday, October 29, 2021, at Gables of Westerville Memory Care.

Joe was born on December 10, 1943 in Ashtabula the son of Ralph and Josephine Santello Massi.  He was a 1962 graduate of St. John High School.  Joe enlisted in the United States Army in 1965 and was honorably discharged after proudly serving his country.

Joe was employed in banking for many years in Conneaut and Ashtabula.  He worked at Northeastern Ohio National Bank, Ameritrust, Second National Bank and Buckeye State Credit Union and retired in 2014.

Joe was a member of Corpus Christi Parish where he also worked as a former business manager for St. Mary/St. Frances Cabrini Parishes.  He was a member of the Elks Lodge, American Legion and the Moose Club.  Joe was an avid golfer and an excellent bowler and had six 300 games and one 800 series.  He held the house record at El Camp Lanes for high series for many years. 

Joe loved watching the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns as well as the Tampa Bay Lightning hockey games.  He enjoyed going on family trips to Topsail Island, NC every summer and trips with friends and family to the casino.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law James Hornbeck.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Peggy Savarise Massi, two sons Mark (Staci) Massi of Raleigh, NC and Vince (Becky) Massi of Westerville, OH, four grandchildren, Anarese Massi, Colton Massi, Eli Massi and Beau Massi, three sisters Florie (Ronald) Gaskell, Marianne Hornbeck and Debbie (Bill) Harpst all of Ashtabula.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at the Raisian Family Funeral Home, 581 Harbor Street, Conneaut.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 744 Mill Street, Conneaut with Father Philip Miller of Corpus Christi Parish officiating.  Cowle Post 151 American Legion Honor Squad will conduct military honors following Mass.

Memorial contributions in Joe’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601 or Capital City Hospice c/o The Hope Foundation, 2800 Corporate Drive, Suite 170, Columbus, OH 43231.  Envelopes are also available at the funeral home.
