LeRoy Richard Maleckar, age 86 of Conneaut, passed away on Friday, July 28, 2023 to join the love of his life, Sharon in heaven.
LeRoy was born on July 15, 1937, in Conneaut, the son of John and Mollie Walter Maleckar. He was a 1956 graduate of Conneaut High School and served in the National Guard for six years until being honorably discharged. Leroy worked for several years at the former Olin Chemical plant, General Tire, and later retired from Millennium as a Lab Technician.
LeRoy was a member of Corpus Christi Parish and attended mass at St. Francis Cabrini. Leroy was known to be a Mr. Fix it with a great sense of humor he also enjoyed woodworking and carvings. He and his late wife Sharon loved being near Lake Erie and fishing. He once made his own sailboat and had several boats over the years. LeRoy played the guitar and banjo when he was in the “Gene Maleckar Orchestra” with his brother Eugene.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sharon Maleckar, brother Eugene Maleckar and an infant brother John, Jr. at birth.
LeRoy is survived by his three daughters, Stacey Maleckar of Cleveland, Amy and David Smith of Erie, PA, Jodi Slayton of Conneaut, and six grandchildren. Lindsay, Duncan, Shae, Nicholas, Eric, and Jake.
Mass of the Christian Burial will take place on Friday, August 4, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. with Fr. Philip Miller officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Conneaut.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, August 4, 2023, at the Raisian Funeral Home, 581 Harbor Street, Conneaut.
Memorial contributions in LeRoy’s memory can be made to the Ashtabula County APL. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
