Madeleine I. Bortz, age 102, of Conneaut died peacefully at home Sunday, April 8, 2018.
Madeleine was born November 18, 1915 in Carlisle, Pa, the daughter of William Bromaster Darhower and Mary Ellen Moor. She worked for the former American Viscose Corporation in Meadville for 41 years and shortly after retiring she opened the Wooden Keg in Meadville for 10 years.
Madeleine was a member of the Meadville VFW and Eagles Club. Madeleine was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed baking, vacationing in Canada with her son Bill, daughter-in-law Patricia, and her late husband Clifford, spending time with friends and most importantly her family.
She is survived by two sons, Harry “Bill” Cooper (Patricia) of Conneaut, Donald Cooper of Meadville, one daughter, Betty Petruso (Sam) of Erie, 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband William L. Cooper, her second husband Clifford Bortz, 15 siblings and one grandson Jeffrey Poland.
Memorial contributions can be made in Madeleine’s name to Personal Home Healthcare & Hospice, 6133 Rockside Rd. Suite 101, Independence, OH 44131.
Arrangements are being handled by Raisian Family Funeral Home. Burial will take place at a later date.
