Obituary

Norieta Jean (Emmons) McMunn, age 84, formerly of Conneaut, Ohio died Thursday, March 2, 2023, at her home in London, Ohio, after a battle with metastatic breast cancer.

Norieta was born September 3, 1938, in Fayette, Ohio, the oldest daughter of Ansel and Arlene (King) Emmons. She was a 1956 graduate of Chesterfield High School and graduated from Bowling Green State University with a degree in education.

Norieta was preceded in death by her parents, and her loving husband of 59 years, Charles McMunn, whom she married June 13, 1959, and preceded her in death December 2, 2018.

She is survived by her son Todd McMunn (Debbie Dunham) of Columbus, Ohio; her daughter Colleen (Jeffrey) Miesse of Galloway, Ohio; two grandchildren Gabrielle McMunn of Toledo, Ohio and Clay Miesse of Galloway, Ohio; siblings Neree (Geraldine) Emmons of Fayette, Ohio; and Marie (Bruce) Cottrell of Morenci, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.

Norieta was a retired elementary school teacher. She and her husband Charles were foster parents to more than 25 children. She was a former member of East Conneaut United Methodist Church in Conneaut, Ohio and member of the First United Methodist Church in London, Ohio. Norieta was a member of the United Methodist Women for several years and always supported her church in any way she could. She enjoyed reading, cross‐stitch, crocheting, word search puzzles, baking, and especially time spent with friends and family. She loved to socialize and had many close friends. She was a regular attender at the Madison County Senior Center and enjoyed exercise classes, movies, and other special events. Norieta was a member of the The Dazzzling Divas of Washington Court House, a chapter of the Red Hat Society, and a former volunteer for Heartland Hospice (now known as ProMedica).

Norieta was known for being such a kind and compassionate friend. She was always thinking of others, from checking on an ill friend, or offering to drive friends to their appointments, she always put others’ needs ahead of her own. She was a second Mom to so many children during her 10 years of fostering. She stayed in contact with many of the children she cared for, and as adults, they still looked to her for love, support and guidance.

Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 25, 2023, at First United Methodist Church, 52 North Main Street, London, OH 43140. Family and friends are welcome to pay their condolences from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with the service to follow at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the First United Methodist Church of London.   The family would like to express their extreme gratitude to Ohio’s Hospice Loving Care for all the care provided to Norieta during her last days.
