Obituary

Peter A. Iarocci age 87 of Conneaut died Thursday, April 7, 2022 at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home surrounded by his family.

A lifelong resident of Conneaut, Pete was born in Conneaut on April 19, 1934 the son of Nicholas and Marianne (DiPetro) Iarocci. Pete was a 1952 Conneaut High School graduate where he was an athlete lettering in track, basketball, and football. Pete proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict until he was honorably discharged in 1956. 

He graduated from Orra Jean Barber School in Erie, Pa in 1957, thereafter opened and operated Pete’s Barber Shop for 48 years. 

He was a member of Corpus Christi Parish and the Alumni Association of County Commissioners of Ohio.  He was a life member of the VFW, American Legion Cowle Post 151, Moose Club, life member of the Knights of Columbus and a former member of the Downtown Coaches Club, which Pete was one of the founders of.  Pete, along with Ed Griswold and Armond Carlucci started the Democratic Steak Fry.  He participated for many years in Little League and Slow Pitch League where he coached and managed the Schlitz team. 

Pete served five terms as Conneaut City Councilman, elected as Ashtabula County Commissioner for 12 years (1977 – 1989), which his many accomplishments as County Commissioner were sewer line expansions throughout the county bringing new jobs and industries issuing more than $60 million dollars in industrial revenue development bonds.  He was also instrumental in building the Justice Center, the Ashtabula County Nursing Home, along with many more accomplishments.

In his leisure time he enjoyed tinkering round the house, gardening, golfing, and spending time with family and many friends.  Pete and his wife Elsa spent the winter months in Florida near their daughter Roseann.  Pete was quoted as saying “thank God I married Elsa”.

Pete is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elsa Ciccone Iarocci, whom he married November 30, 1957, daughters Roseann (Larry) Heath of North Carolina, Carrie Iarocci (Travis Straub) of Conneaut, son Nicholas (Lisa) Iarocci of Conneaut, granddaughters Mari (Will) Ballas of North Canton, Laina Iarocci of Conneaut, great grandson Nico Anthony Ballas, sisters Barbara Marker and Donna Nelson and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his daughter Lisa Iarocci, parents, brother Dominic Iarocci, sisters Jeanette Mondy and Caroline Ruccola. 

At Pete’s request there will be no calling hours. 

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 Noon on Monday, April 11, 2022 at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 744 Mill Street, Conneaut with Father Philip Miller, Father Raymond Thomas and Father John Ettinger concelebrating Mass.

Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Conneaut where the American Legion Honor Squad will conduct military honors.

Memorial contributions may be made to Corpus Christi Parish Memorial Fund, Hospice of the Western Reserve or the Ashtabula County Nursing Home Recreational Fund.
