Ronald R. Smith age 80 died Friday, March 26, 2021 at his home.
Ron was born on March 14, 1941 in Lakewood, Ohio the son of Jay and Violet (Kelsey) Smith. He was a 1959 graduate of Bay Village High School and attended Kent State University and was a graduate of Dyke Business College.
He worked as a janitor at Dyke College to help pay for his tuition, Republic Steel for two years and later retired from Conneaut General Electric Base Plant in 1996 where he worked in Employee Relations Manager at seven different GE Lamp Plants throughout the years. Ron loved to take care of the employees at General Electric.
Ron was a member of New Leaf United Methodist Church. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, woodworking, and was meticulous at detailing cars. He loved taking care of his yard and was proud of keeping his lawn mower exceptionally clean and waxed. He also mowed grass at Windy Hill Golf Course. He especially loved the time he spent with his family and was very proud of his sons and grandchildren.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Mary Beth (Webster) Smith whom he married April 12, 1969, sons Adam Smith of Conneaut and Andrew “Andy” and Christi Smith of Trussville, Alabama and three grandchildren Haley Smith, Kyle Smith and Sidney Smith, brother-in-law Stu and Jan Webster, sister-in-law Susan Mimken, and his beloved companion, Tucker who guarded him during his final hours when he returned home.
In keeping with Ron’s wishes, the family will be having a private Memorial Service.
A Celebration of Ron’s Life will be held later this summer and will be announced by the Raisian Family Funeral Home, where arrangements have been entrusted.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ron’s memory may be made to the Ashtabula County Animal Protective League, 5970 Green Road, Ashtabula, Ohio 44004 or American Cancer Society, 10501 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44106. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.
