Steve E. "Pityu" Horvath

 Steve E. “Pityu” Horvath was welcomed into God’s light on November 24, 2024, at the age of 96. A cherished husband, he is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Sandra (Lucas). Together, they built a life filled with love and devotion in Conneaut, where he was born and raised.

Steve attended Conneaut High School and then served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Steve was the proud father of Stephen Horvath and Susanne Horvath, who remained close to him in the town he loved. His granddaughter, Analynn (Jeneane) DiFilippo, was his shining star, and their bond brought him immense joy.

A true legend of the Great Lakes fleet, Steve was a masterful tug captain whose skill, leadership, and dedication earned him respect and admiration across the maritime community. He was a commercial fisherman and a local expert in the minnow industry, with his beloved boat, “Big Bertha,” docked in the Conneaut lagoon for many years. His legacy on the water remains unmatched, and his stories will continue to inspire.

Steve’s family and friends formed a close-knit circle of love and support, including David DiFilippo (lifelong friend and ally), Amber (Remington) Kissman (honorary granddaughter), and Charles Kunc (honorary grandson).   He was also uncle to Scott (Elaine) Lyon and Julie (Mark) Sedmak. Stephen’s life partner, Heidi Parkomaki, and their family—Rebecca (Bud) Watson and their children, Levi and Caroline, were held dear to him.

His final years were filled with love and care, surrounded by those who cherished him.  Heartfelt gratitude to Lu Ankrom, Kelly Dolan, Tom Hunt, Tracy Goodman and Sara Maddox for their unconditional devotion.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Bertha (Nyilas) Horvath and his sister, Bertha “Tuci” Horvath.

Smooth sailing, Captain — you are forever loved.
