John A. Yako, Jr.

          John A. Yako, Jr. age 76 of Jefferson, died Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at Hillcrest Hospital.

          John was born on February 15, 1940 in Cleveland, Ohio the son of John and Margaret (Flynn) Yako, Sr.  After attending high school, John entered the United States Navy in 1957 and served his country proudly until he was honorably discharged in 1962.  He went on to work at Eaton Axle as a machinist, and was a truck driver and Supervisor at the Ashtabula County Highway Dept. and retired in 2002.

          John was a member of St. Andrew Church in Sheffield and the Knights of Columbus Council #4212 Jefferson.  He served as a Past Grand Knight, District Deputy and Faithful Navigator of the 4th Degree. John loved the outdoors, taking care of his farm and mowing his lawn.  He also enjoyed spending time with family, friends and especially his grandkids. 

          He was preceded in death by his parents. 

          John is survived by his wife, Martha A. (O’Connor) Yako of Jefferson, whom he married Nov 23, 1963, a son John and Angila Yako of Wisconsin, daughters Carol Ann Yako of Jefferson, Judith Ann Tuttle of Madison, Sara and Scott Johnson of Monroe, sisters Florence Beard of Hayesville, Kansas and Louise Gillen of Parma Heights, Ohio, ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

          Calling hours will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at St. Andrews Church, Route 193, Sheffield. 

          Mass of the Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2016, with Fr. Philip Miller of Corpus Christi Parish officiating.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in John’s memory.

Envelopes will be available at the church or the Raisian Family Funeral Home, 581 Harbor St, Conneaut.
