Raymond J. Sillanpaa age 92 of Conneaut died Thursday, March 2, 2017 at the Villa at the Lake with his family by his side.

          Ray was born on March 6, 1924 in Conneaut the son of Jacob and Emma Sillanpaa.  He was a graduate of Conneaut High School.  He went on to work as a car knocker at the Nickel Plate Railroad and later retired from General Electric Conneaut Base Plant after many years of service.

          In his younger years, Ray loved baseball and coached at C.L.Y.O. Pony League.  He also enjoyed bowling and golfing and especially spending time with family and friends.  Ray was an avid walker and loved the lakefront and nature.

          He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ann Sillanpaa in 2007, sisters Betty Shoemaker and Elma Henretta and a brother Einar Sillanpaa.

          Ray is survived by his daughter Robin and James Bryant of Conneaut, grandchildren Rochelle “Shelly” (Scott) Carpenter, Amanda “Mandy” (Adam) Wright and Kris Ann (Marc) Cameron all of Conneaut, and great grandchildren Jaela Dragon, Raeann Wright, Sydney Carpenter, Chase Carpenter, Anna Mae Cameron, Lauren Cameron and Colton Cameron.

          Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 876 Grove Street, Conneaut.

          Funeral Service will follow on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with Rev. Patrick Van DeMotter officiating.

          Following services a luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.

          Burial will take place at the convenience of the family in Glenwood Cemetery

          Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve.  Envelopes will be available at the church or at the Raisian Family Funeral Home, 581 Harbor St., Conneaut where arrangements are entrusted.
