Cora Ellen Hill, age 78 of Conneaut died early Tuesday, December 2, 2014 morning at her residence.
Cora was born August 2, 1936 in Pierz, Minnesota, the daughter of Lawrence and Violetta Bowden Sorenson. She was a 1955 graduate of West Seattle High and then went on to Nursing School. She worked for a short time at the Telephone Company and then began to raise her four children. Cora later went back to college at the University of Washington where she earned her degree in Education. She taught English in the Seattle Public School System and later became a "professional nanny". In 2006 she retired and moved to Conneaut to be near her family.
Cora was a member of Corpus Christi Parish and attended Mass at both St. Mary and St. Frances Cabrini. She also was a member of the Kingsville Quilter Club and enjoyed quilting, sewing, playing her piano, reading books and writing poetry. Cora would host an elaborate "English High Tea" every May with all her girlfriends in the Quilter's Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Stephen Hill and a brother, Dean Sorenson.
Cora is survived by her children Bryan Hill of Ashtabula, Julie Smith and Mike Schatz of Conneaut, Mary and Geoff Robertson of Issaquah, Washington, a sister Patricia and Doral Mittness of Ellensburg, Washington, her former husband, Clayton E. Hill of Ballard, Washington, five grandchildren, Stephanie Hill, Daniel and Patrick Jahren, Marie and Darby Robertson and a great grandson, Sammy Brown.
At Cora's request there will be no services or calling hours. She will be interned in Forrest Lawn Cemetery, Seattle, Washington at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions can be made in Cora's memory to the APL of Ashtabula County, 5970 Green Rd, Kingsville, Ohio 44048. Envelopes are also available at the Raisian Family Funeral Home, 581 Harbor ST, Conneaut, Ohio who has been entrusted with her care.
