Daniel T. "Dan" Sanford, age 63 of Conneaut, died Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at his home with his family by his side.

Dan was born on February 28, 1951 in Conneaut the son of John "Jack" W. and Patricia (Morton) Sanford. He attended Conneaut High School and went on to sail on the Great Lakes. He returned to Conneaut and worked at the Conneaut Leather Company for a time. From there he went on to work at Commercial Testing & Engineering for over 22 years. During that time, the company sent Dan to Columbia, South America to help set up sampling machine systems of coal. Dan also worked and tended gas wells throughout Ashtabula County.

Dan loved anything that was fast. He raced motocross years ago and enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson's and 4-wheelers. Dan had a speed boat named "Thunder Chicken' that was very fast and he and his family traveled to Canada in the summer on their boat.

Dan was so proud to be a "Harbor Rat". He loved the outdoors and was an avid sportsman and hunter and enjoyed shooting "grouse". Among his favorite things to do were making campfires, sitting around the pool and camping with his family. In the springtime he would canoe Conneaut Creek with his son.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Michael Sanford on March 10, 2014, maternal grandparents, Howard and Martha Morton and paternal grandparents, Phil and Dorothy Sanford.

Dan is survived by his wife of more than 40 years, Rebecca "Becky" (Sincowich) Sanford, a son, Daniel Michael and Marybeth Sanford of Conneaut, daughter, Kristina and Brian Mucci of Conneaut, brothers, Joseph and Cindy Sanford of Union City, Pa and Jeffrey and Cindy Sanford of Conneaut, sisters, Rebecca "Becky" and Michael Olmstead of Conneaut, and Barbe and Mark Sanford of Charlottesville, Virginia, three grandchildren, Ava Sanford, Logan Mucci and Kira Mucci all of Conneaut, several nieces, nephews and many, many friends.

A graveside burial service will be held Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 1:00 pm at East Conneaut Cemetery with Pastor Derek Sanford, Dan's nephew, officiating.

Memorial contributions can be made in Daniel Sanford's name to the Outdoor Learning Center, 223 Main St, Conneaut, Ohio 44030 or the Hospice of the Western Reserve. Envelopes will be available at the cemetery, and the Raisian Family Funeral Home, 581 Harbor St, Conneaut who has been entrusted with the care of the Sanford family.
