Delma Marie Gaukel, age 91 of Conneaut, died early Saturday morning, November 1, 2014.

Delma was the daughter of Charles and Alice Ferron Byers. She was a graduate of Conneaut High School. She worked at the former Fortune Byers Hardware Store and later in the cafeteria at West Main School and Southeast School in Conneaut.

Delma married Flavian Gaukel at St. Mary Church. They were blessed with three sons and two daughters. Delma was an active member of Corpus Christi Parish and attended Mass faithfully at St. Mary Church. She was a lifetime honorary member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, where she held many offices and served as Past Grand Regent.

Delma was an avid bridge player and enjoyed traveling, but her primary focus was always her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Flavian, her sister, Mary Pataky, and brothers Jack and Richard Byers.

Delma is survived by all her children and their spouses. Peter (Sandra) Gaukel of Conneaut; Kathleen (Michael) Quam of Seattle; Sylvia (Terry) Atkinson of Conneaut; Charles (Gail) Gaukel of Ashburn, Virginia; Thomas (Patricia) Gaukel of St. Petersburg, FL. She also leaves 14 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 7, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Raisian Family Funeral Home, 581 Harbor Street, Conneaut, with the Catholic Daughters of the Americas prayer service at 4:30 p.m.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at St. Mary Church, 480 State Street, Conneaut, with Father Philip Miller of Corpus Christ Parish officiating.

Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery, Girard, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
