Helen Berta, age 94 of Conneaut, died Monday afternoon, December 8, 2014 at the Villa at the Lake where she resided.
Helen was born in Conneaut on January 19, 1920 on Sherman Street, two doors down from where she lived 92 years of her life, the daughter of John and Stella Stankicinic Jasinski. She attended Conneaut High and as a youth cleaned houses to earn money. She later worked at the N & W Railroad, the Astatic Corporation, W.T. Grant Store, 33 years at GM Whitney's Men's Clothing Store and Abbotts Card Shop in the Conneaut Plaza.
Helen was a member of Corpus Christi Parish attending Mass at St. Frances Cabrini. She volunteered at funeral masses and many hours for her church at the festivals and fish dinners. She was a member of the Polish Women's Society and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank Berta whom she married July 7, 1945, two sisters Annie Jasinski and Eva Steklinski and a brother John Jasinski.
She is survived by a son Franks J. Jr. and Brenda Berta of Memphis, TN, three daughters, Patricia and Richard Showalter of Conneaut, Frances and Erland Haapanen of Mundelein, IL, and JoAnn and Dale Bartlett of West Springfield, PA, two brothers Henry (Jason) Jasinski of Austinburg and Adam Jasinski of Conneaut, a sister Marie Brydle of Phoenix, AZ, 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 12, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Raisian Family Funeral Home, 581 Harbor St., Conneaut.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 744 Mill Street, Conneaut with Fr. Philip Miller officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Route 20, Conneaut.
Memorial Contributions can be made in Helen's memory to Corpus Christi Parish. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
