Margaret M. "Peggy" Cerni, age 87 of Conneaut, died Friday evening, November 7, 2014 at her residence with her family at her side.
Peg was born January 29, 1927, in Jersey City, N.J., the daughter of William and Beatrice Brady Caleskie. She was a graduate of St. Luke's in New Jersey and went to college to become a nurse, graduating as a Registered Nurse. She worked as a RN at the French Hospital and St. Mary Hospital in New Jersey before marrying her husband John P. Cerni on July 22, 1950. They began raising their ten children in Youngstown and later moved to Conneaut in 1984.
Peg worked for a short time at the Ford Cerni Motors in North Kingsville, she was a member of the Irish Colleens, the Catholic Daughters of Americas, and the "World's Best Mom Club".
Peg was a member of Corpus Christi Parish, she attended Mass at St. Mary Church. She loved to travel with her late husband John all over the world. Peg and John spent many days boating on the Great Lakes with their family and friends. She also enjoyed reading, gardening, knitting and sewing.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John P. Cerni, two sons, Charlie R. Cerni, Stephen V. Cerni, Grandson George Anthony Ferrat, and a great-granddaughter Carrigan Aisley Cerni.
Peg is survived by five sons, John and Carol Cerni of Poland, Oh, Joseph Cerni of Youngstown, Mark and Beth Cerni of Coral Springs, FL, Raymond Cerni of Youngstown, Thomas and Christine Cerni of Minneapolis, MN., three daughters, Bridgette Cerni of Conneaut, Alice and Rick Adams of Youngstown, Catherine and Kenneth Ray of Conneaut, two brothers, Vincent Caleskie of Pinetop, AZ and Robert Caleskie of Parsippany, NJ., a sister, Alice and Donald Johnson of Pitts Towne, N.J., 25 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday evening, November 11, 2014 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Raisian Family Funeral Home, 581 Harbor St, Conneaut.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, November 12, 2014 10:00 am at St. Mary Church, 480 State St, Conneaut, Ohio with Father Philip Miller officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Conneaut.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Corpus Christi Parish Building Fund in Peg's name
